Happy Mother's Day!

CARF | CARFIE Of The WEek: Inky ♀

In short, Inky is a real special dog. She gets along great with people and other dogs, she loves to be petted and is very loyal. She thinks everything is fun and great. She is very friendly and calm. Inky is simply a lovely dog!

He is very sweet for those he trusts and he will protect them through thick and thin."

From Trash To Treasure: Radar
The Story of Radar
Time For Action
Radar started to look and feel better, but the streets were still not a safe place for him. He would regularly get hit by cars in the busy, narrow street. It's a miracle he survived this long. He would be chased, spit on, and he has stones thrown at him by passersby. He had also been attacked a few times by other dogs fighting for food.
One day, as we arrived to clean his eye and provide him with pain medication, we heard that he was napping on the sidewalk when a car drove onto the sidewalk and hit him. As we were getting our supplies ready, we witnessed Radar being attacked by a dog. He had to get the dog off him twice. At that moment we knew we had to get him to safety. Radar was loaded into the car without a back-up plan.
Luckily we knew one of our regular fosters would soon be able to foster again. After a few days in emergency boarding, Radar moved to his own little corner of paradise. Radar is still being treated for ehrlichia and anemia, his skin is slowly getting better and he is on daily pain management for sore joints. Fortunately, he tested negative for heart worm (?).
A (Goofy) Treasure He Is
Radar has shown us to be extremely cuddly, loyal and goofy. He's a loving and sensitive dog. We are thrilled to see him feeling and looking better and are so happy he is now out of danger in a safe, warm and loving environment. Like all living creatures should be.
We would like to thank Chantal and JoAnn who both alerted us about Radar and who both made financial contributions to his initial medical expenses.
With so many rescues in our care and completely dependent on the generosity of our friends and followers we would like to ask if anyone is able to assist in Radar's expenses. He will be neutered and another blood test will be done to make sure he's cured of ehrlichia. Any donation is greatly appreciated.

Welcome To CARF, Rico!
We named him Rico and he will be simply stunning once he's fully healed. Please, please help us cover his medical expenses and share him so we can find him a loving foster (or adoption) home where he can recover from this nightmare.
Any assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated.

"Curaçao; a country with such a blatant disregard for animal welfare"
We googled animal welfare departments in Curaçao and were shocked to find there does not appear to be a government organization dedicated to the protection of animal welfare. Luckily we found Curaçao Animal Rights Foundation (CARF) a non-profit organization and they were able to rescue the dog.
For a country with one of the highest standards of living in the Caribbean, with a high-income economy, and a well developed infastructure it's unacceptable to have animals wandering the streets in such appalling condition. Since Curaçao's economy greatly relies on tourism it's in its best interest to invest in the welfare of animals. Tourists do not come to countries like Curacao and expect to see animals in such dire situations.
If the government is not intending to institute an appropriate organization to care for homeless and abused animals, then greater funding is required to keep organizations such as CARF operating. Without such organizations, there is no alternative to care for these animals, and that is unacceptable.
You can be assured that neither my husband nor myself would choose to spend our money in a country with such a blatant disregard for animal welfare. We have a well read travel blog and Facebook page and I must inform that the story is not going over well - people are shocked and disgusted.
(Letter by K.T. to Curaçao, January 2017)
