Welcome Lil' Westpointers

These puppies are just days old and sadly rejected by their mom. They need to be fed every couple hours, quite the task! So to make things easier, our friends at Dierenbescherming Curaçao have agreed to 'mom' them during the day while we take on the night shifts. Working together we can achieve so much more!

CARFIE Of The Week: Rex

How is Rex still here? We are not sure why this handsome dog still hasn't been adopted. Rex is approx. 3 years old and his best qualities are that he's energetic, very sweet, loyal, and well-behaved. Sounds like a keeper to us!
Almost a year ago, in May 2017, Rex was already named our CARFIE Of The Week. But guess what, he's still here. Almost a full year went by and no one came for him. Could he get lucky this time around?

What more can we tell you? Rex has been neutered and is up-to-date with his vaccines. He loves to safe guard his house and look after his caretakers. He is used to living with other dogs and would not mind sharing you.

Do you have room for Rex in your family? Contact us to meet Rex in person! Send and email to stichtingcarf@gmail.com for more info or to set up a meet and greet.

CARFIE Of The Week: Lulu ♀

Our stunning Lulu might look like a tough cookie, but she is really a lap dog in disguise. Lulu is a big softy, a snuggle bum who loves life, loves people, and loves other dogs. She is full of energy and would like to share her love for life with her humans.
Lulu always greets us and everyone she meets with a wagging tail and kisses and is so eager to please. She gets along beautifully with other dogs. She’s truly a wonderful dog and would be a loving, loyal addition to some lucky family.

If you think Lulu might be the right fit for your family, please email us right away for more information or to set up a meet & greet! You can contact us at stichtingcarf@gmail.com.

Why adopting a rescued dog is awesome

10 Reasons Why Adopting A CARF Dog Is Awesome

Adopting a rescued dog is a noble task. By offering your heart and home to a rescued dog, you’ll not only be enriching your own life — you will also be saving theirs! We have made a list with 10 reasons why adopting a CARFIE is awesome.

Why adopting a rescued dog is awesome

1. You will save a life by adopting a rescued dog

By adopting a CARFIE, you’re ensuring he or she stands a chance at enjoying their life to the fullest. We have seen dogs blossom and become treasured, forever companions to their new families. After a life of neglect and mistreatment, being adopted into a loving family is the best thing that can happen to these dogs. By adopting from us, you’ll not only be making a friend for life — you’ll be saving one.

2. You will make space for another dog in need

Actually… by adopting a CARFIE, you are not saving one life but two lives! Every time a CARFIE is adopted to a forever home, a spot opens up for another dog. So when you take your new best friend home, we’ll be able to start the rescue cycle over again with another dog in need.

3. You’ll find your perfect match

We know our dogs through and through and are open about any potential specific issues. Most of our dogs are cared for by dedicated foster carers until their forever home is found. Our fosterers provide great insight into the dog’s personality so that we can help you find the paw-fect candidate for your home, lifestyle and family needs. You can think of us as matchmakers! Our ultimate aim is to find loving and permanent homes for our dogs. Instead of choosing a dog based on breed or looks, you can choose a CARFIE based on the connection between the two of you.

4. You can still be picky.

But with over hundred dogs in our care, we still have a wide variety of dogs to choose from when adopting a rescued dog. Whether you want to adopt a puppy, a more mature dog, or a senior dog, we can help you. We usually have small, medium-sized and larger dogs, dogs with short hair or longer hair, female and male dogs… you name it, we got it! And like we said before, we will gladly help you find your perfect pet.

Why adopting a rescued dog is awesome

5. You’ll adopt a healthy pet

All of our CARFIES are vetted, up-to-date on their shots and preventives, they have been spayed or neutered*, and they are already microchipped as well — all of which is included in the adoption fee. This doesn’t mean your dog will never have issues, but at least you’ll be starting with a clean slate. When you adopt your dog, you will receive their health record and information about continued care.
If you adopt your CARFIE before they reach the age of six months, we will contact you when it’s time for them to be spayed or neutered. Costs for this procedure are already included in the adoption fee.

6. You’ll receive eternal gratitude

Unfortunately, many of our dogs have been through a lot prior to being rescued by us. They may have been abandoned by their owners, they made have been traded in for a puppy, they may have lived with someone who didn’t see the value in them, or they made have been hurt and abused. Over the last 10 years, we’ve seen first-hand how well dogs can bounce back and regain their trust in people. Our CARFIES appreciate all the love and happiness that you provide them with and they have proven to be super loyal, loveable and grateful.

You'll receive eternal gratitude

7. You’ll always have a support system

We love to stay in touch with the adoptive families of our CARFIES. Receiving an occasional picture, video or update to see how you and your dog are doing can really make our day. On the other hand, if anything changes or isn’t working as you had hoped, we’re here to listen, assist and advice. We also have a behaviorist on our team who is happy to help work through any issues with you, whether it is a week or a year after the adoption.

8. CARFIES make a great addition to any family

Our dogs are incredibly sweet and we also have some serious smarty pants. Our dogs are great with kids (and adults too) and with just some TLC, you’ll end up with a dog who’ll be the most popular pet on the block!

Foster a CARF Dog

9. Your adoption fee goes back into helping more dogs

Our CARFIES are just as sweet, smart and watchful as purebred dogs at just a fraction of the cost. That’s right, we keep our adoption fee low at just Nafl. 150 per dog. As if the low adoption fees weren’t enticing enough, our adoptable CARFIES are already vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and microchipped — all of which is included in the adoption fee. Your fee goes straight to rescuing more disadvantaged animals and allows us to continue doing more amazing work for our community. You can’t get a better deal than that!

10. You’ll be a hero

Really, you would be. After all, it’s not every day that you save someone’s life, is it?
Oh, and selfies with your rescue dog: priceless.

Why adopting a rescued dog is awesome

For more information about our adoption process and/or our adoptable dogs, please send an email to stichtingcarf@gmail.com. We will get back to you as soon as possible and answer any questions you might have. If you’re not in a position to commit to (virtually) adopting an animal, consider temporary foster care. You can enjoy the company of a rescue animal — and save a life! In the meantime, don’t forget to like us on Facebook and Instagram for your daily dose of #CARFIELOVE.

Meet Mini and her 10 Mini-Me's

Dios spar nos! 11 more mouths to feed, 11 more souls to vet and provide for. So relieved we were able to help this family. Mini and her mini-me’s are safe and loved in a warm foster home. Never will Mini have to beg for food again for her and her babies.
We will, however, need your support to help cover the medical and food expenses for this family. They have been to the Vet and have been dewormed and treated for parasites.

We are in crisis mode with several emergencies. Please if you can spare any amount... Mini and her little ones would be so grateful for your compassion.

Our local bank account is MCB 21199501 (Beshiweg 1). You can also make credit card donations through PayPal Paypal (stichtingcarf@gmail.com). We also have a Euro-account for supporters in The Netherlands/Europe, kindly send us a private Facebook message or email us at stichtingcarf@gmail.com.

We hope we can count on your trust and support.

CARF's Pet Adoption Update: Sneezy

Picture

One of the joys of working at CARF is receiving updates on our adopted dogs. Who remembers Sneezy? Sneezy was adopted in August 2012 and has since been a much loved companion.
Dog's name:
SneezyDog’s former name:
Sneezy. He kept this ridiculous 7 dwarfs-name since he sneezes a lot as does his baasje :-)

Adopted (month/year):
August 2012

What made you want to adopt this dog?
He had such a sad look in his eyes. All he wanted was a home. I did not really want a dog, but I just could not say no to those eyes.

What are the best things about your CARFIE?
He is my best friend. Our happiest moments are together on the couch.

What are your dogs favorite activities?
Sleep, eat, repeat and never too old for playing with silly squishy squeeze toys.

In what ways has your CARFIE changed your life?
He made me realize there are so many dogs in need.  I never really noticed before, but since Sneezy came into my life I see similar sad stories everywhere. He was my first rescue, but not my last.

How would you describe your CARFIE in 3 words?
Best ever happened.

How do people react to your CARFIE?
Everybody loves Sneezy. He is gorgeous, very sweet and listens well.

Does your CARFIE have any nicknames?
(Lovable) Idiot.

* Did you adopt a CARFIE yourself? Click here to share an update with us! Pictures of your dog can be shared with stichtingcarf@gmail.com to be featured on our website and Facebook-page.

CARFIE Of The Week: Meghan

Meet Meghan. Meghan is the real life version of the emoji dog. This happy-go-lucky spayed female has white fur with a brown patch around her one eye. She's often seen smiling, with both eyes open and her tongue hanging out. Yep, she is pretty much a living emoji — the faces she makes are just PERFECT.
We've gotten to know Meghan well and have all fallen in love with her. She is a young, gentle, and playful dog who has a lot of love to give. Meghan loves spending time with her people to get some cuddles, ear scratches, and assurances that she is loved. She also doesn't mind a little massage every now and then. Once Meghan settles into her new home, we are sure she makes the sweetest companion.

This is what one of our volunteers had to say about her: "Meghan is an awesome dog and I really enjoy spending time with her. She'll make a great pet. Hopefully her forever people will find her soon!"

Meghan is fully vetted and ready to be adopted! If you'd like to learn more about Meghan before visiting her, or if you'd like to meet her in person, feel free to email us at stichtingcarf@gmail.com.

CARFIE Of The Week: Naomi

Puppy Naomi is approx. 13 weeks old which means she is old enough to be adopted. Naomi attended the Puppy Meet & Greet last month but unfortunately, she didn't get lucky. Yet! We're confident that there's someone out there who would love to give Naomi the chance that she deserves. Could that someone be you...?
Naomi is a sweet girl who enjoys cuddling, being pet, and giving kisses. She is looking for human companionship and affection. She would not mind having a doggy pal to play with and learn from but would also be fine with being the only dog in the house. We know she'll make an excellent addition to some lucky family. Come visit Naomi to see if it's a match!

For more information about Naomi (or one of our other CARFIES) or to set up a Meet & Greet, contact us at stichtingcarf@gmail.com. Can't adopt? Maybe you'd like to virtually adopt one of our CARFIES!

Puppy Business Fundraiser by The Monkey Business

Who remembers CARFIE Harley? Harley was found as a little puppy hiding underneath a car in Curaçao. Since November 2017, he lives in The Hague with his adoptive parents where he's living the life that he always deserved. And on February 24th, he's powering his very first workshop. Are you coming...?
So, what is happening? On Saturday, February 24th, you're invited you to a full day of 'monkey business' to raise money for the homeless, neglected and abandoned dogs on Curaçao. The full sum of the tickets will be donated to CARF and the donation will be used to buy medicine, pay for vet visits, purchase dog food, get vaccines, etc.

But what exactly is 'monkey business'? Good question! Monkey business shows you that through a perfect mixture of different movements, methods and skills you will gain flexibility, strength, coordination, balance, reaction, conditioning in a fast pace ― all while having fun!

That sounds fun! That's because it is! But don't think it isn't a serious workout tough, we play in a serious way where your 'inner monkey' will be having loads of fun, where your human body will think "What is going on?"

How much does it cost to join? You can sign up for an original monkey business session by Ravian in the morning and/or learn the handstand in the afternoon with Claire. If you decide to join both workshops, make sure to bring a lunch package with you. Of course, you can also sign up for just one workshop. Just make sure to sign up soon because tickets are limited!

€25 Original Monkeys (with Ravian)
€25 Handstand Monkeys (with Claire)
€40 Full Day Monkeys

What time is all this happening?
The Original Monkeys will take place from 10:30AM - 12:30PM. The Handstand Monkeys will take place from 1:30-3:00PM.

So, how do I sign up? Signing up is easy! Click here to visit the website of The Puppy Business and scroll all the way down to the 'Purchase' button.

Don’t have time at all? That's too bad! If you can't join, perhaps you would like to donate? No matter how small, all donations help. There's no minimum for the donation, it’s all out of love!
So, in short...

What: The Puppy Business Fundraiser
When: Saturday, February 24, 2018
Time: 10:30AM - 3:00PM
Where: Ravez Movement Academy, Lange Beestenmarkt 58, The Hague, The Netherlands

[NL] CARF Organiseert Puppy Meet & Greet

Over Curaçao Animal Rights Foundation (CARF)

CARFIE Of The Week: Pups, Pups, Pups

Pups, pups and more pups. We are overloaded with extremely cute puppies. Fluffy or short-haired, we have them in all colors and sizes. They are all patiently waiting to be picked up by their forever families.
Thinking about adopting a four-legged friend? Our pups are fully vetted, they are chipped, and when they are 6 months old they'll be called back for spaying/neutering.

Will you give one of these sweet, social puppies a forever home? Feel free to contact us for a meet and greet! And of course, if you are interested in adopting an adult dog, you may contact us as well. In addition to our puppies, we also have lots of mature and even senior dogs in our care who would love to be adopted.

Send an email to stichtingcarf@gmail.com for more information.

Pupdate: The Seven Mahuma-Pups

We have received many requests for portrait photos of our Mahuma-puppies. All seven puppies are feeling (and looking!) much better, and have blossomed into the cutest little dogs (pictures in the article). They will soon be ready for adoption. Can you open up your home and heart to one of our puppies?
Thank you for giving these innocent souls their second chance. In case you don't quite remember what they looked like when they were first found, click here.

We couldn't have helped them if it wasn't for your trust and support. May we introduce you to... Babs, Banjer, Becky, Belinda, Blossom, Brenna, and Brooke!

Yippee... Alenna Found Her Home!

Alenna's story starts at the landing strip of Hato International Airport. At least, that is where we start her story. We never found out where exactly she came from, but she was first spotted wandering at the airport. The people there were unable to catch her and we were told that if we didn't pick her up, it might end bad for her.

Curaçao Airport is not the best place for a stray dog to wander around. Fortunately, we were able to capture Alenna and bring her to safety. Fast forward to December and Alenna found her forever home right in time for Christmas! We simply couldn't be happier for her.

Go Alenna, we wish you a very happy life with lots of treats and love!

The Incredible Story of Invictus

* WARNING, GRAPHIC IMAGES * When Invictus was found, we were at a complete loss for words. The huge gaping wound on his back (image in article) was not caused by an infection but allegedly inflected upon him by human hands. Human hands using a machete.
When we first found Invictus in late March, well... just see for yourself. He was in the most horrible shape.

▽ March 27, 2017: Our sweet boy had a little bit of food and a few sips of water this morning but he is sleeping a lot. He is still very critical due to potential complications that may arise from walking around, we suspect for 2 or 3 days, with this horrible injury. Our vet Pieter Claus of Claus Clinic spent three hours (!) removing maggots and debris and flushing the wound.

▽ March 30th, 2017: Getting some fresh air this morning. Invictus is still critical but he has a hell of a fighting spirit. He sends his love and gratitude to all his fans and supporters who have donated to his medical expenses and sent him positive thoughts. Thank you. What a fighting spirit... Go Invictus!

April 7th, 2017: We knew this might happen and unfortunately, it did. Invictus' wound has burst open due to the rejection of dead tissue. The excessive tension on the edges of the wound made it impossible to stitch the wound back together. Fortunately, our vet Pieter Claus of Claus Clinic offered a solution.

▽ April 11th, 2017: Invictus is an amazing dog! He is very friendly, easy-going, and very happy to be alive. Every day is just the best day ever... again. He is incredibly strong both physically and mentally and reacts very well to his treatment. Just scroll down for his before-picture and his today-picture! He eats like a lion, takes his meds, and allows us to groom him without problems. Even the weird construction on his back does not bother him that much. He is incredible! He can't wait to join the other dogs and fool around, but obviously he has to wait a bit for that. Soon Vic, soon!

May 9th, 2017: Invictus in his foster family. What a sweet soul.

June 5th, 2017: Our wonder boy Invictus out and about. We have the best fosters, the best vet, and the best supporters! Without you all, this would not have been possible.

Fast forward to September 2017: Look how stunning Invictus is today! All thanks to your trust, your generosity, his amazing foster, and vet Pieter Claus and his dedicated team at Claus Clinic.
For more information about Invictus (or one of our other CARFIES), please feel free to contact us at stichtingcarf@gmail.com. We will reply to your message as soon as possible.
